The Pebble Ring Observatory
Nera
“A chair-tall figure in a patched slate coat, with bright silver goggles and a pencil tucked behind one ear, standing beside a brass telescope as silver pebbles sparkle around her feet.”
Nera is a moon-born mapmaker who stands as tall as a chair and spends her evenings tracing the wandering pebbles as if they were messages. She is careful, sharp-eyed, and a little theatrical, with a talent for noticing patterns that others step right past.

The Leaking Outer Hatch
A new hatch on the outer walkway will not seal, and the observatory’s air is beginning to drift out in tiny, unseen breaths. With the station losing warmth and pressure little by little, someone has to decide how to protect the most important rooms first while the repair pieces are still outside.

Seeds Waiting for Warmth
A visiting class of small space gardeners arrives with a tray of sleeping seed pods for the observatory’s quiet greenhouse, but the pod-warming panel has shut down in the cold. The seeds will not wake in time for planting unless the crew finds another safe way to give them gentle warmth without using up the station’s power reserve.

Darkness Over the Ring
The Observatory’s sleep-orbit lights go out all at once just as the sky turns blackest, leaving the ring walkway and viewing platforms in complete darkness. With the power failing in pieces, someone has to decide quickly whether to stay put, relight the systems, or guide everyone through the dim floating paths before anything drifts loose.

Pip and the Pebble Line
At the Pebble Ring Observatory, Pip notices the moon’s silver pebbles rolling in a line toward the door instead of drifting as they usually do. When the warm pebbles stop at the threshold, the three children realize the Observatory itself may be trying to point them toward something hidden inside.
