Lantern Quay
Pip
“A peppery little harbor child, about 90 cm tall, with a round face, a wool cap, and boots dusted with salt and mud, often leaning forward as if about to dash off.”
Pip is a small lantern-tender who stands about as tall as a crate of cabbages and lives among the foggy lanes near the harbor. He loves a bit of daring and gets a thrill from stepping out first when everyone else is hesitating, but he can be far too sure he has guessed the right way and rush ahead before he has checked properly.

Footsteps in the Fog
A thick fog rolls in from the sea and hides the water completely, but the sound of tiny footsteps keeps circling around the pier. Something small and unseen seems to be using the quay as a path, and it is getting closer to the market stalls.

The Crab Parade
A parade of crabs marches out of the tide pools carrying bits of ribbon, buttons, and shiny coins. They are heading straight for the center of the quay, as if they are delivering an important message no one can yet understand.
